MGB Shunters

Tm2/2 4971, 4972

These two typical small industrial diesel-hydraulic locos were built by the German company Schöma in 1960 for an 860mm gauge cement works line in North Germany. In 1976, after being rebuilt to metre gauge by the manufacturer, they were acquired by the Furka-Oberalp.

They were originally needed for hauling construction trains for the Furka tunnel, and are nowadays mostly used for shunting at Andermatt. The two locos are identical, and can be connected in multiple when required for heavy duties.

Model

The model was built using 3DCanvas, based on drawings in Finke-Schweers and photos found on internet or supplied by mrg.

There are skins for three livery versions:

  • Original Furka-Oberalp red with two white stripes, fo lettering (1976–2002)
  • The same, with mgb lettering (2003–2005)*
  • New mgb red with mgb lettering (2008- )

(*) — I don’t know exactly when they were repainted: photos from 2005 show the transitional livery, those from 2008 the new.

Transitional livery version — fo paint scheme with mgb lettering

(Built to order for mrg - available soon via the library)
