Lo- CostMK1 Project
I started to think about lo-cost `mk1s when I was building a steam era layout. There already were some excellent models of `mk1s but they were too detailed for practical use in a decent size model: the high level of detail meant they lowered the frame rate in the simulation too much.
So I started to think about a “lo-cost” - ie reasonably fast rendering model. The basic idea is too use a simple Strips shell for the outside shape and cover it with a texture. Windows would be achieved by a transparent texture and detail such as door handles etc would be kept to a minimum. Similarly the bogies would be kept simple in order not to make the model slow to render.
At the moment I’ve made a simple shell (it could do with a few more points to make it more curved) and have produced textures for green, maroon and red/cream colours. Others have produced chocolate and cream and blue and grey liveries.
My test model is a tso, other variants, such as bg, fo etc will be fairly straightforward - but will need a different interior (seats etc).
Anyone planning making variations might like to know that my textures start in CorelDraw, and I’m happy to let anyone have the CorelDraw file if it will help.
