Semaphore Signals
Semaphore Signals give an indication to the driver of a train using a movable arm, usually operated by an arrangement of pulleys and wires from the signal box. Most railways used some form of semaphore signalling until the mid-20th century, but since then they have been replaced in most places by colour-light signals, which are more flexible and cheaper to operate and maintain. Germany is one of the few places in Europe where semaphore installations are still reasonably common.
See Semaphore Signals for uk semaphore signals.
