Backup

Backing up your data

SpotLog backup writes out your data to an XML file.  The backup file includes:

  • List of sightings in the Log.
  • List of unmatched records in the NotePad.
  • Loco's marked with the "Mark as Seen" command.

The backup file does not contain the dataset records from the book - these can be re-downloaded from the server when required.

The backup file is written out as two files, one called "Backup.xml" and the other with the current date eg "20141130.xml".

The backup location is specified in the app's settings.

Restoring data

You can restore your data backup by using the "import" function in SpotLog.  Select "Import" from the "Data" sub-menu and browse to the backup file you want to import, and select the file: SpotLog imports the data and puts the records into the NotePad.  Once the import is complete, you can select "Process" to process the imported records and SpotLog will match the records as normal.

Note, if the records imported already exist in the app's data, SpotLog will de-duplicate them as usual.

Sync

SpotLog v3.2 and later have an option to sync data.
