ImportingGPS Tracks

This is a “todo”, rather than a tutorial for the moment:

Problem

  1. There are a lot of websites out there where I can create a track on a map and export it as a gps file — how can I use those to import the tracks of railways, roads or rivers into Rail3D?
  2. I’ve just been on a train ride with a gps in my pocket — can I transfer the resulting track to Rail3D?

Solution

(not done yet!)

There is an open xml standard format for gps tracks, GPX

Google Maps uses another standard, kml

All we need is a simple utility to convert the track from one of these into Rail3D format.
